I would suggest talking directly with the college. I don't know what the office will be called, but there should be some office called "Disability Services" or "Office for Students with Disabilities", etc. They will set up a plan for the student and usually act as a mediator between students and faculty. In college though, your daughter will probably have to take more initiative in speaking with faculty about her situation.

My daughter had a 504 plan when she was in grade school. When she went to 6th grade we started homeschooling and have been doing that ever since. She will be a senior next year and wants to start planning for college. Is it better to have a 504 or deal with Americans with Disabilities Act? She was dx'd with FMS when she was 7 and now has severe migraines also.

No- one seems to have posted about this so I thought I'd give some information from my experience (in England). I'm lucky as the exam secretary at my school has Fibromialgy so she pulls all the strings to get whatever I need. You should be able to have 25% extra time if your in pain, be able to do the exam standing sitting lying down or swapping between those, have 'rest breaks' were they stop the clock while you have a...

yeah 504 are incredibly awsome

however, that doesnt work with private schools, which sux, so basically they dont have to take you if they dont want to . . .

You have done an incredible job finding this information.

I'm a special ed major and I deal with these laws alot.

Just a quick note to those still in high school:

If the school gives you grief about getting some accomodations, you still have options. Parents have to go through courts or whatever the system is for your school district all the time.
