The day after.....

Posts: 176 02/27/08 13:09 Dutchie	Tags : None Well, I couldn't tell you guys & dolls about it yesterday since the board had gone missing in a mysterious way, a bit like my teeth really. But yesterday was the big day of my great extraction and I must say, it went rather well. The pain afterwards is mimimal, I haven't taken more then 2 painkillers over the last 24 hours. The only thing that bothered me, or annoyed me was the bleeding and the continous taste of blood in my mouth. The dentist, and esspecially his assistant were ever so kind and comforting to me. We had a bit of a laugh when we came out of the dentists office. He had cleaned of my mouth and all, and given me a paper towel but because my entire upper lip was totally numb I couldn't feel any of the blood that was dripping out of my mouth. So we, my wife and me, went on our way talking and chatting a bit. And then elderly lady came towards us and gazed at me in total horror. My wife looked at me and started laughing an wiping of my mouth. "You have blood all over your lip," she said, "You look like a Dracula who just had lunch!" Anyway, today I'll get my check up to see how it's going. I wasn't allowed to take the denture out for 24 hours so I didn't. I did washed my mouth out a bit with some gentile mouthwater 'caused it tasted really dirty...... Had some food, soup with bread, allready besides the smoothies and I'm gonna try some real food tonight. Well, keep it soft like mashed potatoes and so on. Thanks again for all the tips and hugs. That reminds me of when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I am very fair-skinned and I bruise like a peach. Plus I had waited until I was round 30 to have them removed so they were pretty badly impacted. The surgery was a little, shall we say, more traumatic than it might have been 10 years earlier. When I went back the next week for a followup visit, I still had these long blue-green streaks that ran from each jaw almost to the tip of my chin. There was a girl, about 16 or so, pacing back and forth nervously and looking all teary eyed and worried. I got to chatting with her mother and found out the girl was there to have her wisdom teeth removed too. I assured the woman that the surgeon was very competent and that my horrible appearance was because I had waited waay past when I should have had the problem taken care of. The daughter wasn't listening but suddenly she stopped her pacing, looked at me and said, "What did you have done?" The mother and I looked at each other aghast. What was I going to say? Finally the woman shrugged her shoulders as if to say, "Oh, go ahead and tell her." I did and the poor girl burst into sobs. I tried to reassure her by telling her that I was 15 years older than her and it is easier when you get them out early. That my teeth were impacted. That I had little knobs of root wrapped around the bone because of the years of postponement. That it really looked worse than it was since I bruise so easily. As I went in to have my checkup, she was sobbing in her mother's arms. As I paid my bill, I could hear her sobbing in the exam room. Poor child. I hope they gave her some happy gas and that her surgery went well. Glad you are doing well. Especially so since I get to go get an abscessed tooth cut out tomorrow. Life is just a bowl of cherries, isn't it?

Glad to hear yours went ok, still dosen't fill me with confidence about it though The dentist is awful! although they are really nice and everything, just the smell and sounds makes my legs go. Complete fear always has been. Hope it still going ok for you.

Posts: 5547 02/28/08 01:28 Queen of Tea USA	glad it went well for you. The rest is downhill now. Reminded me of when my hubby got his uppers and lowers out. HE and I and my oldest daughter worked at the bakery. He worked nights and went to his appt. I had told him come by the bakery so I could see how he looked. Well the back door was locked. So he had to come in the front of the strore where my daug. and I were. when my daug. saw him she said "mom he looks like dracula" he too had a numb mouth and blood was oozing down the corners of his mouth..........we all laughed so hard. again, I'm glad all went well for you. My dentist told me to use tea bags in my mouth. The tannins in the tea helps speed the healing process. I moistened them first then held them in there off and on several times a day. May your today, be better than yesterday, and not as good as tomorrow. God bless .

Yes it is by the sound of that, hope you go through this painless sweetheart. I'll be thinking of you though and send you a little angel to help. Julie - I can so relate to that fear of the dentist, mind you I didn't go for 13 years untill I found this one. He's great with scardy-cats and cowards like me. When I was lying in that chair to have everything extracted and all was numb in my mouth I saw him taking that extraction-tool and said: "Help me sweet Jesus". "If you don't mind I'll do it since I studied for it," he replied and we laughed. See, Im not scared of the needles,....I know, I'm weird..... It's the tools and how they look, the sounds of it... He's got this amazing sense of humor. For example, this one child in his practise made a drawing of him. And he was portayed as a green monster with a sorts of torture-tools in a dungeon full of spiders and rats... He has the draing hanging in his waiting room for everyone to see. I'm still a bit frightened but much less then I ever was. Nobody loves going to the dentist but it's well worth it. The thing that makes the diffrence for me is, I don't expect the dentist to take away my fear but he believes and understands that I am afraid and takes it in consideration when he treats me. He wil use anaestetic if I want because he says: "There's no need for pain or the fear of pain, we don't live in the Middle-Ages." A good dentist makes all the diffrence. He gave me a good trick to avoid the pain of the needle though. He'll count to three and on three he injects and I breath in cold air through my mouth. That really helps.
