Hi everyone, I'm new to the board and thought I would share my story with you all. I became ill at work back on April 14, 2005. I was denied twice
before I got a hearing with the ALJ which was held on May 5, of 2008. She approved my claim on June 26, 2008 Fully Favorable and I got the result's two
day's later of her decision. Let me tell ya, I was one happy camper. But not just yet. I still had to wait at least 60 day's to hear from my local
Social Security Office. I did go down to my local office, and they informed me that all of my information was at the Baltimore location being processed. Two
more weeks goes by, and nothing.
So I got on my computer and found out who was my local congressman in my area since I'm new to the area. And I wrote him a nice long letter letting him
know my problem's I was having getting my SSDI check. Well two week's later, I got on the phone Tuesday morning and called the 800 number to the Social
Security Office and they informed me that they had mailed me my check out on Monday the fourth for my back pay that went back to April 14, 2005. And they
informed me how much my monthly check would be and that they had already taken out my monthly fee for my medicare payment.
I did sign up for direct deposit way before this, and couldn't understand why they didn't send it straight to the bank, but that's ok. Knowing that the wait is over, a few more day's won't hurt. I have two children age's 10, and 12 who may get some money as well. The lady told me to wait until I get my check, and they will tell me what I would have to do to get my children their money.
Yes, the wait has been a long one. And I thank God that he has allowed me to continue to hold on when I really wanted to give up. I thank my husband as well for standing by my side through it all. For those of you who are waiting, don't give up. This is "YOUR" money and don't feel guilty about getting what is due to you. Write to your congressmen, and let them know what you are going through, and how long it is taking to get your benifits. Just write, type, do whatever you have to do to get their attention. The Social Security has to get better. I just wanted to give you all my testimony, and to let you know don't give up the fight. God bless.
