Our boxer needs a name! |
Lead | ||
|
Today we took ownership of a very affectionate white male boxer who had been abandoned. We are looking for a suitable name that is suitable for him. It needs
to reflect his power and strength as well as his love and affection. It does not have to be an English name. I would be glad of any suggestions.

Sunrise,
Here's a story about a special boxer ... My DH's oldest sister and her hubby had a wonderful boxer. The whole family LOVED this dog. He had a special personality and was lively, intelligent, and loving. He lived a long, happy life, but when he passed on, they were totally devastated. My BIL actually went into a depression that lasted weeks until out of the "blue" a little lost mixed breed dog showed up and they adopted her. They still have her. She is a great little dog and she helped them heal. That was about 3 years ago. Anyway, to make a long story short... the name of the boxer was a German name (because boxers originated in Germany). His name was Beiser (pronounced Bye-ser). It means "one who hunts with falcons" in High Middle German. Don't know what you think of it, but thought I'd throw this name in the pot.... ![]()
Whatever name you come up with, I'm sure it'll be a good one that fits him perfectly! Happy Name Hunting!!!

What a gorgeous gentleman. Boxers are such an awesome breed. I came VERY close to having a purebred female boxer once. Ihappened to be at the animal shelter
when the ownder brought her in. She was solid white, completely deaf, and pregnant- which was why the woman was bringing her in. She and her husband didn't
want to be bothered with a pregnant dog. The clerk told her the dog would likely be put down before she even left the parking lot, and this lady, in front of
her children said," I don't care, she's not my problem anymore." She left with her children crying thier eyes out. I begged the lady to let
me take her, but the woman had signed her over, and it was the shelters policy to never let an unaltered dog out the doors. It was too late to spay her, as she
she was due any day. If only Ihad said something before that woman signed the papers, she would have been mine.
But anyway, it's always been my policy to give a pet a little time to show thier true personality(after they've become accustomed to being in our home) before naming them. That way, I know the name really suits them. The one time I didn't do that was when we got our current dog, InuYasha. His name was picked before we ever knew we were getting a dog. In Jap-anese, Inu means dog, and Yasha means demon- so we have demon-dog. And he has lived up to it very well. |

I think if he were mine he would end up being called Handsome because that is the first word that went through my head when I saw him. I think you have landed
in the middle of a little Boxer fan club here, Sunrise!
On second thought, looking at him stamding there as though he is king of the world, perhaps I would have to name him Leonardo DiCaprio.

Of the two Sam is still the nutiest, not the boxer as one would expect. Thanks for all the suggestions so far for a name - more are of course welcome. |

I've had several Boxers and my favorite was named George. George was a wonderful dog. But this dog reminds me more of another great Boxer I had named Max.
He looks like a Max. Especially the shot of him on the bed.
George was short for Sargent George Friday and Max was short for Maximilian Schnell.

Thanks for all the suggestions - we still don't seem much further forward. We've had a George and the last boxer was Caleb (Cally). Max sounds good but
he seems to respond more to Charlie than Max when we tried both. For now he is "big boy". We will make a decision soon.

Second how about the name Lucky? I think he is lucky to have your family adopt him. And you are lucky you got him. Even Mr. Lucky strikes me as a name
for him.
Good luck with the name hunting. Are you going to let us know what you do decide on.? lol hope so.
May your today, be better than yesterday, and not as good as tomorrow.
God bless . |

I'd be tempted by Righteous Fist of Harmony with whatever is the most appealing word for short. But I am over fond of my own sense of humor.

I like the name 'Moses' (you could use 'Moe' for short!) as Moses was very strong and also had a very white beard!!
I also like 'Orson' (of Latin & English origin) which means 'bearlike'. Best, Leslie |

Well I must say it has been very difficult choosing a name for our boxer. All our previous boxers had names when they came to us (all have been rescue dogs).
This one having come from the pound was nameless. the first few days have been hard work for us and I should think for him. He has overwhelmed us with
affection:
He is a quick learner and has improved areas of his behaviour we were not happy with. For example when food was around he would bark incessantly, this has almost stopped. He showed how smart he was by opening both fridge doors (only once thank goodness) and opening the back door to come out to follow me. He has been given the name of Max and is starting to respond to it. Sam the labrador absolutely loves him and they have some very mad and very rough 5 minutes which is always a joy to watch even though we have to tidy up everything they have knocked off the side. It is lovely to have a boxer back in the house. I hadn't realised just how much I've missed the little things like those big dark eyes looking at you with intent and expression: |
