Can't really see the detail work (or get a good impression of the "specialty thread" -- which has a kind of mother-of-pearl sparkle -- used
for some of the stitching on the tail and seashell-bodice), but you can get the general idea.

this is absolutely georgeous. Makes me want one too.
I think it'll go very nicely in her room. When I called to see if her dad
would handle the framing for me (since I was worried about glass breakage in transit, and also didn't know what style to choose because I don't know
how her room is decorated these days), he started describing her room to me, and told me how it's blue with a seashell-motif wallpaper border. Talk about
serendipity! I told him, "Wow, that's perfect, because it's a mermaid, on light blue cloth!" 
Oddly enough, I hate to sew more than anything; it seems like the most tedious
thing in the world to me. And yet, I can spend hours and hours on cross stitch, crocheting, or knitting. I never claimed to make sense!
