First if it gets much worse your need to see a doctor or got the ER . Ok that
being said home remedy #1. get a small bottle of very very dark olive oil . Then pour a small amount in a spoon and hole the spoon over the burner on your
stove just till it's very warm but not hot . Now you need to pour a very small ammount in the ear that hurts just a few drops . Then put in a cotton ball
to hold the oil in . Keep the cotton ball over night . the warm oil will really help take away the pain . If your ear continues to hurt or gets much worse take
the advice you always give me and head to the ER .

There is a drop the doc can call in for you too, or maybe the pharmacist can give to you, it's called auralgan...it's for the pain.
the sweet oil/olive oil can help too, I don't bother with warming it, but I do live in the south and things stay warm anyhow, LOL. If you have any sinus meds, take them as well...and antivert for inner ear. But the drops are what seem to help the most. |

I use the olive oil but add a drop of tea tree oil to it. Also a drop of peppermint oil is good. You can use both together. (I don't use the peppermint for myself because I have an extreme aversion to peppermint.) |

I'll second the olive oil- that's what we use around here. All the doc can really do is give you antibiotics, and studies have shown that they really
don't do much, and that most ear infections go away on thier own in the same amount of time it takes the meds to work.
One thing I do if it's a really bad one is to use the olive oil, but with a little garlic in it.I keep a jar in my fridge with peeled garlic cloves covered in oilive oil.I'll spoon out a tiny bit, warm it a little and drop a few drops in the painful ear.The pain usually goes away within about half an hour. I also use warm compresses on that ear- it helps to draw out any infection, and also helps ease the pain. I hope it goes away soon.I don't think there's much that's more miserable than an earache, except maybe a bad toothache. |

Aw thanks for the suggestions....don't have any olive oil, but i have some garlic soaking in regular oil and will put a drop or two of that in. I have
been using hot compresses and that has beenm helping too. I am a bit confused as to why i have the ear ache in the first place...I hardly ever get them.

Don't know if you have FMS, like I do. I often get "earaches" that don't turn out to have anything to do with my ears - they always turn out
to be FMS-related. My ear will ache just like a real earache, only I'll have pain right in front of the ear as well. I put a piece of cotton in my ear to
keep cold air out of it and massage my face right in front my ear. Usually, the ache is gone in a day or two at the most.
Of course, you may have a REAL earache, for which the olive oil is an excellent old-fashioned remedy - just like everyone else has said. I just thought I'd add this info. about FMS earaches (or what seem to be earaches) just in case it could be happening to you. Hope you feel better soon!!! Jo |

I get them quite a bit, at least once a month. What I was told was that sometimes fm will cause tightening of the eustacian tubes, which prevents fluid from
draining away from the ears like it should. The fluid builds up behind the eardrum, and causes pain. Thing is, it's clear fluid- not infection. But, warm
oil (it may be the warmth more than anything) will often open the tubes, and the garlic will keep the fluid from becoming infected( which has happened to me a
couple of times, and it aint fun- worst ear infection i've ever had in my life).Warm compresses also open the tubes to allow some drainage, so regardless
of the cause, it should help.

Ugh! I'm so sorry you have an ongoing earache. The pain is not fun at all.
I have a tip for prevention because I used to get chronic ear infections. I use "alcohol" drops, after I shower, swim, take a bath. I put a drop or two in each ear--let the drop sit for about a minute then let the alcohol flow out. I found that any bit of water left in my ears was causing infections. The alcohol dries up the moisture. I seldom get an infection since using the drops. I originally bought the product Auro-dri specifically for after swimming. Now I reuse the container--when it's empty I just refill it with alcohol. Hope your ear pain resolves soon! |

I can certanly sympathize. I get "mystery earaches" all the time lately; my doc has looked and can never find anything wrong. But almost every
morning I wake up with horrid pain in my right ear, bad enough that it will wake me up (early) sometimes. If I can manage to fall asleep on my other side
(rare), or turn over in my sleep when it starts up (also rare), then it doesn't get too bad. I suspect it may be sinus-related, but the doc has no clue.
