Now (not so funny, but uplifting for me anyhow) I was already in a semi-good mood after seeing a commercial, yes a commercial. T. Boone Pickens, one of the well-established oil-men in our country-now retired I think-but that's beside the point, has put out a commercial that I only caught the tail end of. He, as an old oilman, is sick and tired and disgusted with the energy crisis we are facing and is rather concerned about our lack of motivation to explore other fields of energy production. Most notably, wind and solar power. He has set up a website: http://www.pickensplan.com/ , and intends to put a portion of his wealth behind finding means to move away from oil-dependancy. Here is part of his message on his webpage:
IT'S TIME TO STOP AMERICA'S ADDICTION TO FOREIGN OIL
America is in a hole and it's getting deeper every day. We import 70% of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year - four times the annual cost of the Iraq war.
I've been an oil man all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of. But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil.
On January 20, 2009, a new President gets sworn in. If we're organized, we can convince Congress to make major changes towards cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources.
To get this done, I need your help. Check out the
plan. If you think it's worth fighting for, please join our effort.
So right now I am happy, giddy almost, and it was nice to hear something non-negative for once. So don't go spoiling it
for me, LOL!!! I'm sick and tired of hearing consistent bad news! I'm all for being informed, but really, we need to sprinkle in some real-life
uplifting, positive news as well.
