Has anybody started to use Neurontin and then
stopped because of the side effects? Also I have read
that you should not stop taking the Nerontin too fast
because of withdrawal symptoms.

Mosken, Thanks for the links to thjis. Very tinely
for me as I have just started Neurontin. I won't have
time right now to read the links but I will comment a
bit. I have been on the duragesic patch for 1/12
yrs..............seemed to work pretty well for pain, but
I had become so lethargic & brain
fogged.
Long story short.................I started on 1 a day for 3 days, went to 2 a day for 3 days. On Tues. I will be up to 3 a day. These are 100 mg caps. The doc will regulate the dosage until we get the correct amt. to handle my pain. So far the side effects are minimal. I hope this will work for me. I have a new female doc who will listen to me!!!!!! The guy I was going to had his own mind set & would not listen. Glad you had some time on the boat, Mosken, also happy you are having some sunshine & nicer weather, hope this will help your pain. It's to bad we have to suffer for a few hours of fun. Take care,my dear. Kay |

I quit neurontin because of the side effects. After
about 3 months it had worked it's way out of my system,
and the pain and fog was terrible. I went back on a
reduced dose. The side effects are livable, and so is the
fibro.

Mosken, I was on neurotin for about a month when I
developed an allergy. It had lowered my pain levels and I
had felt the best I had in years. I have not tried
another RX that targets nerve receptors. My dr told me
today that he had read a study in a medical jouneral or
using this type of rx. The study showed remisson of fm to
the point that people were able to go back to a full time
job. Wish I had asked which what jouneral.

I was taking Neurontin for about 3 months but quit
because of the side effects... We started out at 100mg 3
times a day and as we would titrate up the side effects
got worse so I finally quit taking it all together....
first we tried 1 week of 100mg 3x a day then the next
200mg 3x a day but the side effects were awful so we
decided to try titrating up slower 1 month 100mg 3x a day
then the next 200mg 3 times a day well the side effects
never got better and at only 100 mg 3 times a day I
didn't have any pain relief so it was pointless to spend
the money for it! My side effects were severe confusion,
at times people would ask me my name and I didn't know, I
couldn't even tell you if I was married or had kids then
other times I was sleepwalking 24 hours a day everyday
and I was more tired taking the med, but when I would try
to sleep I couldn't and if I did it was only for an hour
or two and then I'd have nightmares so bad that I was
scared to try to sleep again! Oh for me it was
awful!

neurontin sideffects/withdrawal | #8

i have been taking nerontin 1200mg tid for 4 months
after getting ciguatera fish poisoning a(potent neuro
toxin) afer being on the med for a few weeks i was
experienceing muscle pain\cramps, a horrible cough that
won't go away. memory loss, dissy spells, muscle
weekness. erection problems (probably the worst symptom
of all) i would tell the doc about the symptoms and he
kept saying to take more neurontin. Being in the med
profession myself as i recoverd from my illness started
to research neurontin and found i was treating my side
effects by taking more neurontin. I started tapering my
doses from 1200mg 3x a day down to just 300mg a day
decreasing 300mg per does per week. today is my first
neurontin free day. my symptoms which lessend while
decreasing my doses are back (expecialy muscle tightness
and pain). From my research I'm hoping to be symptom free
in a few days to a few weeks. I have spoken to people who
are taking neurontin for differsnt ailments some have
good responce and some do not. If anyone has any info or
need info. I would be more than happy to hear from you.

Re: neurontin sideffects/withdrawal | #9

I am so glad I found these postings. I have been on
neurotin for almost a year. I have been experiencing
awful abdominal pain Coughing, weight gain, muscle
twitches. I had been blaming my symptoms on Remeron. I
have been off the Remeron for a month now and the side
effects have just been getting worse. My dr insist my
stomach pain is from gas or something. Today I read on
the insert from the drug store that if I experience
severe stomach pain to tell my doctor. I am so mad that
she thinks neurotin is such a wonder drug. I am getting
off of it one way or the other.
