How much is enough for one is not the answer for someone else. Once again the response is proportional to the dose but it is your body, and my body is always changing. I was taking 3000 mg a day at one point. I think the borrelia consume before my body gets much use out of it. I had lots of those bugs then. Now I am taking 450 mg a day, but only a few months ago it was 1700 mg a day. I watch my body and respond.
I really suggesting starting low and watching your body before increasing with anything you do.
Magnesium comes in lots of forms, and some are harder on some folks guts than others. None used to ever bother me. I have read that magnesium malate is suppoosed to give you more energy, because you need the malic acid so I am taking that. Not sure if it helps....
