Hi Mosken
I love the title ..... it sounds just my kind of book ... I followed your link and have ordered it from Amazon. Managed to get a 2nd hand copy for £5.57. Should take 1 to 2 days to arrive. I will post about the book once I've read it, to let others know how it tackles the ME/CFS problem. jilly

Thanks for posting this, Mosken! I haven't heard of this book before.
I like the way she focuses on the positive. My one concern is the emphasis on treatment and recovery from CFS through dealing with psychological issues associated with chronic illness. I am certain that this approach will help some people, and it can only increase the quality of life when dealing with CFS (which is a very important thing). But I have a serious concern that, in some ways, the focus on psychological issues and dealing with "energy" (in the Reiki sense, in that Reiki tries to unblock the energy that flows through our body, which is a sort of concept that seems to be Asian in origin and in many ways, makes sense to me) removes CFS from the realm of physical illness with autoimmune and other measureably scientific physical disorders and places CFS back into the realm of the psychological, which all of us have been laboring to drag it out from under for years. The minute I start hearing about "treatment" and "recovery" from CFS through energy and mind/spiritual balance, I get very wary. |

Hello Mary,
I do agree with your post. I have tried many alternative therapies to clear the CFS over the last 15 years. I've also tried many psychological and spiritual approaches, too. It would take about 2 pages to list everything I have tried! Although nothing has been able to cure the CFS, I have gained a lot from many of these techniques and feel they have made me a wiser, better and more spiritual person for my involvement with them. I now no longer search for a cure .... I think it's been going on too long for that. But to read something uplighting and positive always makes me feel better in myself, even if I don't feel physically better. jilly
NB: Although I have said that nothing has cured the CFS, I think perhaps it would be fair to mention Qigong. This is the one technique that has helped strengthen me a little bit . But only if I practice it very regularly and because it's a hard discipline to follow, I lapse .... I also get pain relief from a few herbs I take, but not a cure. |

I practiced Qigong for a while with a really good teacher. I found it good exercise for us with CFS (it was basically strength training without the
cardio workout that's so rough), and I'd recommend it to anyone. It did make me feel very calm and focused, too, which is always a good thing.
Jilly, I think you've made a really good point there - that staying positive and growing as a person is something that I've also found immensely helpful in dealing with CFS. I don't think we'll find a cure-all in these approaches, but we will greatly enhance our quality of life, and that, as far as I'm concerned, is the most important thing. |

I said I would report back once I had read the book by Elizabeth Bailey called:- Sacred Space - ME/CFS, Depression, Anxiety& Stress - A Guide to Healing & Recovery. The writer is a Reiki Healer and Reflexologist and was diagnosed in 2003 wth CFS/ME. The back cover of her book states:
I found it to be an easy book to read, with a gentle and peaceful feel to it. There is a suggested plan of exercise, that you can adapt to your own energy levels,(gentle yoga type exercises), nutrition suggestions, relaxation and complimentary healing methods are also covered. Among other things it covers chakras and rebalancing of energy fields, crystals, singing/chanting, colour therapy and positive thinking. Some other Chapter headings are: Toxic Awareness and Blissful Sleep. I'm clearly not a book reviewer!! , and have simply tried to cover a few of the ideas that the book sets out here. On a personal level, I would say that it is a very pleasant, gentle book and that the practices are likely to help anyone to feel
better in themselves on a GENERAL level, whether they have CFS or not, as it is all about being gentle with yourself and treating your body and mind kindly,
which is something we so often forget to do.
