My Story of Pain |

I am relatively new here and felt the need to talk more about "my story." This where I was several months ago (previously posted on another blog):
"I've suffered from chronic migraines for most of my life. I'm 53 yrs. old and have been taking prescription meds. for over 30 years (Oramorph SR
for the past 10). My pain increased from 2 rear end car accidents. My whiplash has turned to arthritis in my neck and my lower back pain is due to herniated
disks. I also suffer from depression and anxiety from (1) working near the Pentagon on 9-11, (2) living in the same neighborhood that the 2 snipers did most of
their killing, and (3) my teenage son brutally attacked my wife/his mother. I see a psychiatrist and occasionally see a therapist in addition to seeing my
internist. My psychiatrist has me on Wellbutrin, Effexor, and Diazepam. My dilemma is that I feel like some sort of sideshow freak. How many people have to
take so many meds on a daily basis? I left out Flomax for my prostrate, singular and Zyrtec for my allergies and asthma and a few other prescriptions. I wish
that I could check into a hospital and be detoxed from everything. My wife tells me that I am not a happy person. If I check into a hospital and dry out, I
realize that my problems will still be here but I'm starting to think that the quality of my life is so diminished that I have to do something soon ...
very soon! ... but what?" As far as now: I'm almost completely off the Morphine (I went down from 180 mg. to 15 mg. in a period of 2 weeks ... will be
completely off in 5 days. I've switched to Marinol (a Schedule III) med in the States. As a result, I'm no longer depressed ... My psychiatrist saw no
need for antidepressants (if I could take Marinol) ... sooo I've been off of Effexor and Wellbutrin for over 2 weeks ... I'm a much happier person now
... I'm feeling like a kid again instead of a very very old man [LOL]. Mark

Mark, I was addicted to pain killers for months. I took 10 times the maximum dose for the simple reason they didn't work! I was in pain all the time and no
painkiller helped. I was on morfine like you in the end. So my doctor said I was poisoning myself.
Friends gave me a book about the 3rd medecine: Food! Socrates said it already a long time ago. Most medication have side-effects in the long run. Some medication you just need to take in order to stay alive. I'm not against medication and I will take them if that's what's really needed. Next to that, I look for alternatives with an orthomolecular doctor. These are doctors who are specialised in food as well. I select them with care because I need advise from someone who combines the best of solutions. Not just some food specialist who has no medical education. Take good care of yourself, think of the days you lived without medication, ask your doctor how you can live with less medication without giving up too much your quality of life and be proud of yourself. You made the right decision. Friends are indeed a good medicine :-) KR, Annemie |
